Frequently asked questions
Mikumi is accessible year-round, but the dry seasons (June-October and January-February) offer the best wildlife viewing. Animals congregate around water sources, making spotting easier. The wet season (November-May) is less crowded but has better scenery and bird watching. We run safaris every month.
Mikumi is approximately 290 km (180 miles) from Dar es Salaam, a scenic 4-5 hour drive through the Uluguru Mountains. The route is well-maintained asphalt road. We provide airport pick-up from Julius Nyerere International Airport, which is included in the package price.
Yes, Mikumi is family-friendly. Children from age 8+ are welcome with parental supervision. The short 2-day duration is ideal for families. The lodge offers comfortable accommodations and good food. Game drives are from a vehicle, so it's not physically demanding. We offer discounts for children.
Essentials: sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, binoculars, camera with zoom lens, neutral-colored clothing (grays, browns, greens), warm layer for early mornings, and insect repellent.
Don't bring: bright colors, perfumes, or scents. The lodge provides toiletries. Pack lightly - only bring what fits in a small duffel bag for the vehicle.
Most nationalities require a visa to enter Tanzania. You can obtain a visa on arrival at Julius Nyerere International Airport ($50 USD) or apply online before travel. Citizens of select African countries and a few others can enter visa-free. Check Tanzania immigration requirements for your nationality before booking.
