Frequently asked questions
Jeep-sharing means you'll be in a 4x4 vehicle with 4–6 other travelers and one guide, which reduces cost and is great for solo travelers and small groups. A private safari gives you your own dedicated vehicle and guide. Both offer excellent wildlife viewing - the main difference is group size and price. You can upgrade to private for an additional fee.
Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed in nature. However, Tarangire and Ngorongoro have exceptional wildlife populations. The Big Five (lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant, rhino) are frequently spotted in both parks. Your guide will do everything possible to locate animals, but sightings depend on season, time of day, and animal behavior. Most guests see numerous animals on this safari.
The best safari season is June to October (dry season) and December to February (short rains). During these periods, animals congregate around water sources, making viewing exceptional. The weather is also ideal - warm days and cool nights. Avoid April and May (heavy rains). Book 2–3 months in advance for peak season availability.
Game drives involve long hours seated in a 4x4 vehicle (typically 7–8 hours per day, split into morning and afternoon sessions with lunch breaks). The vehicle is comfortable with good suspension. You should be in reasonable health and able to sit for extended periods. Early mornings (5:30–6:00 AM starts) are typical for optimal wildlife viewing. Bring sunscreen, hats, and binoculars.
Essentials: neutral-colored clothing (greens, tans, grays - avoid bright colors), sturdy hiking boots, sun protection (SPF 50+ sunscreen, hat, sunglasses), light layers (mornings/evenings are cool), camera/binoculars, insect repellent. Bring a light jacket. One small daypack is helpful. Avoid perfumes - they attract insects. Hotel laundry service is available if needed
