Safari Blue Zanzibar: Traditional Dhow Sailing & Snorkeling
Full-Day Menai Bay Adventure | Dolphins, Sandbank Feast & Hidden Lagoon

Introduction
A full day on a traditional wooden dhow through Menai Bay Conservation Area. Snorkel pristine waters. Watch dolphins play. Feast on grilled seafood on a white sandbank. Swim in a secret mangrove lagoon at sunset. This is the complete Zanzibar experience - all in one day.
Forget speedboats and crowded group tours. Safari Blue is a day on the water the way it should be: a traditional wooden dhow, a small group, and the kind of marine ecosystem that made people fall in love with Zanzibar in the first place.
You'll start in crystal-clear snorkeling waters where dolphins hunt and parrotfish crunch coral. By midday, you're barefoot on a sandbank eating fresh seafood grilled by locals who've been doing this for decades. By sunset, you're floating in a hidden mangrove lagoon so quiet you can hear frigate birds circle overhead. This isn't a tour. It's a day in paradise.

Your Day on Safari Blue
Morning: Snorkeling in Menai Bay
Your day starts with a boat ride into Menai Bay Conservation Area - East Africa's richest marine ecosystem. Crystal-clear water. Your guide positions the dhow, briefs you on safety, and in you go.
Schools of powder-blue surgeonfish. Electric parrotfish crunching coral. Octopuses hiding in crevices. If you're lucky (and you often are), dolphins hunting in the same waters. The fish aren't performing for cameras - they're just living. That's what makes it real.
All snorkeling gear provided. Life jackets available. Your guide stays with you the whole time.
Midday: Sandbank Feast
The dhow anchors beside a sliver of white sand that appears only at low tide. You wade ashore. Your crew grills fresh catch - whatever came in that morning. Snapper. Kingfish. Calamari.
Coconut rice. Tropical fruit. Swahili spiced tea. You eat barefoot in the sand with the Indian Ocean framing every direction. Drinks and snacks are included throughout the day. No hidden costs. No surprises.
Afternoon: Kwale Island & Baobab Tree
A short sail brings you to Kwale Island, home to a 200-year-old baobab tree. The trunk is massive - three people can't wrap their arms around it. Climb the wooden ladder built into its bark and emerge above the canopy.
From this natural lookout, the panorama spreads: protected Menai Bay waters, traditional dhows with billowing white sails, the endless Indian Ocean horizon. Your guide shares local knowledge - why these trees were planted upside-down by the gods, which traditional medicines come from their leaves.
Late Afternoon: Secret Mangrove Lagoon
As the tide rises, your dhow glides into a hidden mangrove lagoon. Sunlight filters through tangled roots casting emerald shadows. The water is warm and crystal clear. You float on your back. Frigate birds circle overhead. Time slows down.
This is the quiet part of the day - nature's way of saying slow down.
Evening: Sunset Sail Home
The wind softens as golden hour approaches. Your captain adjusts the sail. The dhow leans gracefully, cutting through water that turns amber, then rose, then deep violet. By the time you're back, you're sun-drunk and salt-sprayed, already planning to tell everyone about this day.
