Morning: Prison Island & The Tortoises (8:00 AM–11:00 AM)

Your boat departs early, cutting through calm morning waters toward Prison Island. This isn't a typical tourist spot - it's a real conservation success story.

The prison dates back to the 19th century. Today, it shelters one of the world's rarest tortoise species: the Aldabra giant tortoise. Some are over 100 years old. They weigh 400kg. They move with ancient, unhurried grace.

Your guide hands you fresh leaves (their favorite) and you feed them directly - a moment that never gets old. Kids and adults alike stand mesmerized. The tortoises are unfazed. They've seen generations of visitors. They know lettuce when they smell it.

You'll also explore the island's prison ruins, learn about its complicated history, and understand why this place matters for conservation today.

Midday: Sail to Nakupenda (11:30 AM–12:30 PM)

After Prison Island, the boat turns south toward Nakupenda. The water shifts from deep blue to turquoise as you approach. Your guide points out the sandbank - sometimes it's visible, sometimes it's not. The tide controls everything here.

On a clear day with good tide timing, Nakupenda emerges like a secret. White sand. Shallow water. Horizon that stretches forever. This is the Zanzibar that made people fall in love with the island.

Afternoon: Nakupenda Paradise (12:30 PM–4:00 PM)

Snorkeling (12:30–1:30 PM): The reef around Nakupenda is alive. You'll see parrotfish, moorish idols, surgeonfish, and small reef sharks (harmless, curious). Visibility is typically 15–20 meters. The water is warm. Everything feels dreamlike.

Lunch (1:30–2:30 PM): Back on the sandbank, the crew grills fresh catch—red snapper, kingfish, or grouper depending on what's been caught that morning. Coconut rice. Tropical fruit. Cold drinks. You eat barefoot in the sand with your toes in the water.
